Being An Astronomer by Philip Pugh

This book has been written primarily with the raw beginner in mind. It covers the basic information that you need to view astronomical objects. It also matches objects with the most suitable types of equipment. It also tells you how to use various types of mounts, binoculars and telescopes. It assumes that you have reasonable access to the internet and advises you how to make the most of it. Most important of all, it gets you started with visual astronomy and does not digress into many side issues that are interesting but not immediately helpful. The last chapter describes how you might choose your life as an astronomer to evolve.
